CAMBALA INVESTIGATION AGENCY: 2011

C. I. A., short for Cambala Investigation Agency, consists of five kids (four young adults!!) who live in a fictitious town called Cambala and solve numerous crimes....in their sparetime!! They're adventurous and naturally curious, unravelling mysteries, cracking secret codes and busting kidnappings and robberies. Armed with cool gizmos, trendy bikes, smart thinking and any amount of pluck, no mystery is difficult for the C.I.A.!! Adding to that, each of the five kids have their own special talent...:

Rohit Ghosh, 16, is the MOD--Master Of Disguise--of the gang, and quite different from all others. Rohit is stylish, cool, a lover-of-sports and the greatest sportsman at school. Strong, plucky and quick, he is always ready to take on any goon the team encounters. He usually does most of the out-on-the-field jobs and less brain-work, but he can do great brainwork alright, when needed! Normally dressed in sweatshirts and trendy clothes, he is also a fan of SRK. He is also the fastest on bike and constantly tries to break his own records. He is forever teased by the others and has great acting skills!! Rohit is always quarrelling with Farhan and its pretty funny, normally. He boasts a lot and is a great flirt, but in his case, even his negative points go in his favour. He may seem totally I, Me and Myself, but he does care, underneath, and is always ready to help if anyone really needs him.
Sucheta Duggar, 16, is a brainy, no-nonsense computer geek with lots of attitude. She is the research & analyst of the gang and can find anything with a few clicks on her trusty computer. A big crossword puzzle fanatic, she likes to solve mysteries in a research-based manner and always tries to make Ishaan be a little less hard on his sister, Nikki. She is called Suchi by all, and uses the word 'Guys' a lot.Nikki Mehra, 12, is the 'baby' of the gang. She is handled firmly by her elder brother, Ishaan, who tries to leave her out of adventures; but she always tags along behing the others, despite being forbidden, and is often a help to others when they're trapped. This Bruce-Lee-fan knows karate and draws well. Her childlike ideas often help crack cases when other members get stuck. She is brilliant at distracting anyone (normally the comical policeman, D.L.K.) so the others go where they want, unnoticed.Ishaan Mehra, 16, is the gadget guru of the gang, with a scientist father, from whom he can get any chemicals or gizmos. He uses cool logic and tries to think like criminals to crack cases, recreating the events in the sequence in which they must have happened. He carries lots of gizmos in his backpack which get the team out of trouble. He normally sports shirts and treats his sister, Nikki, like a baby.Farhan Siddiqui, 17, comes next and he is almost the opposite of Rohit. He is the silent type and also a bookworm (no wonder his corner in the C.I.A. HQ is full of books). A bespectacled walking-talking encyclopedia, he knows every chaiwala, paanwala, rickshaw-wala, kitaab-wala....and basically every 'wala' of Cambala and can get any info out of them. He also knows history, geography, topography of the city (and almost all other city) inside out. He is also great at making excuses to adults. Farhan is also allergic to garlic.

'Dum Lagake' Kulkarni (known officially as D. L. Kulkarni and as D.L.K./Dum Lagake by the gang.....Farhan gave him the name Dum Lagake) calls himself Kulkarni and is not a part of the gang. He is the comical policeman of Cambala who dislikes all C.I.A. members except Nikki. He is always running after promotion and tries to solve mysteries before C.I.A., but fails.
Catch these cool kids...with D.L.K. trying to keep up...every week, Monday to Wednesday 7-7:30pm only on Pogo!! Repeat telecast is from 3-3:30pm.

(Whoz your personal favourite from the C.I.A. gang?? Vote in the poll! BTW, my fave is Rohit, overall.....and Nikki, among girls. Farhan is pretty nice too. I don't like Ishaan only because of his hair. Suchi is nice, I'd like her only if she was a little less serious, sometimes.)

P.S.: Srinivas Nair, editor of Cambala Times, should also be mentioned, though he isn't present in most mysteries. He is a funny, forgetful man and a friend of the CIA, who always insists on being called Shrini (just Shrini, no MR. or Sir). He is always writing articles on them. He is very useful to the CIA for he is related directly or indirectly to most people in the world and can help CIA do their spying by making just one phone call. He is a south India

Mystery of the Breaking Glass Part-I

This case begins with Rohit displaying his bandaged thumb to Nikki and dramatically telling her about how horrible the cut was and how the doctor said he would need to do amnesthesia...."Anasthesia" corrected Farhan....Rohit waved it off and described the extreme pain of surgery,etc. etc. Farhan said that Rohit's injury was so big he kept the whole surgery team of Cambala on standby (sarcastically) and Rohit picked up a small stone (whole thing was funny!) but before he could throw it, the glass beside Farhan broke. Farhan was furious as he cud have been hurt by the broken glass, Rohit protested saying he didn't throw the stone when a mirror in the room broke. All three stood up, horrified!
Sucheta and Ishaan are shown cycling & chatting when Ishaan spots a man with a gun in his bike mirror. They follow him to an old house. Ishaan opens his bike mirror and they watch him through it. They daren't see him directly in case he spots them. They see him pointing a gun and then the mirror cracks. Ishaan picks up a log to defend themselves when they hear footsteps. He jumps out suddenly but cannot see anyone. Back in HQ, however, close inspection reveals that no bullet had touched the mirror. Someone suggested use of pebbles (don't remember who) but Rohit/Farhan (dun remember who) said that was impossible from such a great distance. The C.I.A. five return to the place and spy on the building. They see an old man....Farhan tells them the man is a professor-type person named Dr. Bhalerao. Then we see a man pointing his gun at the C.I.A. members!! And ANOTHER gun is pointed at the first man! There is the sound of a bullet and the C.I.A. drop on the ground immediately (good reaction) but, realizing someone else was shot, rush to the place behind them. They find a man on the ground, asking for water.
Leaving Rohit and Farhan behind, the others rush back to the Professor's house for water on returning they find Rohit and Farhan quarrelling, each blaming the other for the man's escape. Farhan tells them they pulled the man into a sitting position when the man suddenly pulled out a gun and pointed it at Rohit...Rohit interrupts saying Farhan could have hit him from behind ("Tab tak tu usse peechhe se maar sakta tha, loser")...Farhan retaliates that what if the gun was set off by accident, then Rohit cud have died ("Aur galti se gun chal jata toh tera kya hota, beta??"). They return to the Professor's house and report all they know to him. The Professor is puzzled about why anyone shud do this. Rohit suggests 'Khandani problems' and Farhan nudges him and accidentally spills the orange juice in his hand, too. Rohit visits the bathroom to wash the stain, muttering about Farhan. He washes and looks up to see the bathroom mirror broken. He also realizes that the light in the room is not electrical but from candles. He looks up to see the lightbulb broken. Back in the living room, the Professor informs them that he is leaving that evening and a constable named D.L. Kulkarni will be guarding his house. The five say,"Sir, isse aapki problem kam nahi hoki, balki bad jayegi!" (that'll not lessen your problem, but increase it!).
When the five return to their bikes, they find the glass of all their bikes broken. Ishaan comments something must be going on at Dr. Bhalerao's house which they should investigate. That night the C.I.A. 4 (minus Nikki, coz of Ishaan) go to Dr. Bhalerao's house. They spot a figure all covered up. Rohit moves nearer to attack him, but there is a huge confusing moment with both screaming before we see D.L.K.!! Farhan rushes to Rohit's aid, trying to pass it all off with the excuse of playing Catch. Other two cum there too. D.L.K. tells them to clear out as he is investigating a very important case. The others are wondering what to do when Nikki arrives and complains to D.L.K. about the others...that they were not allowing her to play and had given her a stupid puzzle which she cannot solve. D.L.K. says he has done that sort of puzzles in his childhood and Nikki asks him to show her how to do it. D.L.K. turns back with Nikki and Nikki signals to the others to get into the house behind D.L.K.'s back.
They find a lock there, but Ishaan, as usual, has a way. He dabs the lock with an acid that reacts with metal and succeeds in melting it. They enter the house and discover that all glass things are broken, even the TV. They find the Professor's lab and see a machine there. Ishaan switches it on (I dunno how he knew how to operate it) and a thing looking like a satellite dish starts revolving and Ishaan's torch breaks. Suchi holds a glass keychain in front of the machine and that breaks, too. Rohit points out that Farhans specs are still intact. Farhan taps it and says that it's plastic. Suddenly, they hear a sound behind a side-door. Rohit opens it and a man jumps out on him. There is a huge confusion in the dark.

Mystery of the Breaking Glass Part-III

This is the third and last part:
The car is shown moving along a path with Ishaan at the back. The men discuss Dr. Bhalerao and Ishaan hears them say that Dawar's gang must have kidnapped Dr. Bhalerao and they'll take him to Alibagh on boat from point No. 3 on Silverbeach that night. One man asks for the water bottle which is in the same place as Ishaan. The other man gropes around the place without turning back. But he can’t find the water. Ishaan carefully picks up the bottle and holds it near the man’s hand. The man finds the bottle and hands it to the man in front. A little later the car stops at a petrol pump. A young man comes forward to fill the tank. The men in the car tell the young man to fill up the tank AND ALSO THE CAN AT THE BACK OF THE CAR!! That's where Ishaan is and Ishaan is really alarmed to hear this.....back at Dr. Suratkar's house we see (for a few minutes) how everyone is worried about Ishaan and then we return to the petrol pump....the young man opens the back and spots Ishaan inside. Ishaan bolts for it. Meanwhile, the other men are the discussing the new boy in their gang and just then the young man comes and says,"Sir gaari mein wo ladka....." (he meant Ishaan but the men thought he meant the new boy in the gang) and the men tell himnot to talk nonsense and do his job. Ishaan returns to Dr. Suratkar's house and tells the others what he has heard. Suchi asks Dr. Suratkar where Silverbeach is but Dr. Suratkar says he doesn't know as he has been in Mumbai for only three months. Rohit says,"Bas teen mahine mein aapne Shahrukh say bhi mill liya?? Kya baat hai Sir!" Suchi then uses Global Earth, an internet program, to find Silverbeach. They see that Silverbeach looks like the digit 3 in English. Farhan says they can use the forests marked on the map to get there secretly. Ishaan says only C.I.A. 4 will be going (which means excluding Nikki). Nikki is upset.
Next we see the C.I.A. 4 on the beach connecting speakers from boat to boat. Rohit gives Dr. Bhalerao's cane to Ishaan to help connect the speakers. Suchi says someone might see the speakers but Ishaan says it's impossible in the dark. They get to their positions....Farhan with Suchi, Rohit with Ishaan.....and after sometime, when it gets dark, Farhan & Suchi see a boat coming. They inform the other two...but the other two say the car hasn't arrived yet. Rohit is sparying Hit everywhere (Ye machchar to mujhe khaye jaa rahe hain...achcha hua Doctor ke gaari se yeh utha liya) and Suchi tells him to be quiet for the car arrived just then. They see Dr. bhalerao being carried out (he looked like the men had been pretty rough with him) and they go nearer to the boat. Dr. Bhalerao arrives there, but just then the second gang (whose head Rohit & Ishaan tackled...the gang with Dr. Bhalerao is Dawar's gang) arrives and there is a fight between the two gangs. When the fight starts, Farhan hand Rohit a black cap and wears one himself. Farhan:"Pata hai na kya karna hai??" Rohit:"Doctor ko utha kar bhagna hai, aur kya." Ishaan hands Farhan Dr. bhalerao's cane and Rohit & Farhan run to the middle of the fight and are trying to pick up Dr. Bhalerao when the head of the second gang grabs Farhan and shoots in the air. He says,"Dawar, mujhe Doctor ko dede warna tere aadmi ko mar dalunga." Dawar says,"Toh maar daal usse,"...we see Rohit's horrified face (he is lying on the ground...."woh tera hi aadmi hai." Rohit is shown opening his backpack while lying on the ground. The second gang's head is confused coz Farhan is NOT his gang-member. He opens Farhan's cap and recognises him as the 'Cambala-wala'. He stands beside Dawar and points his gun at Farhan. He is about to fire when Rohit jumps up and sprays Hit (the one he had used earlier) in their (the two heads) faces. Ishaan and Suchi meanwhile, are taking out a mike (connected to speakers) and when they see the other two are in grave danger, Ishaan switches on the sound of police sirens in a tape recorder and says into the mike,"Tumlogon ko police ne chaaron taraf se gher liye hain." Then Ishaan talks like a man who has called the police:"Inspector saab, in logon ko pakdiye, ye gunde hain, daaku hain..."etc. etc. and Suchi makes a noise like dogs barking. The men run away, leaving Farhan and Rohit behind. Suchi and Ishaan run onto the beach and the four pick up Dr. Bhalerao and take him to Dr. Suratkar's car which was waiting a little way away, with Dr. Suratkar and Nikki in it. They take Dr. Bhalerao to Dr. Suratkar's place. Then we see Rohit talking on his cell,"Haan Dad...main thik hoon...Shaadi?? Shaadi bahut achchi thi Dad...kal?? Ok Dad, kal tak wapas aa jaaonga....Ok Dad.....Bye." He returns where the others are sitting. Ishaan asks Dr. Bhalerao about his invention. Dr. Bhalerao says his invention can detect earthquakes but as it operates on a very high pitch, it breaks all glass within a radius of 10km. Ishaan asks,"Sir aapka invention toh achchi cause ke liye hai. To phir ye criminals uske peechhe kyon parey hain??" Dr. Bhalerao,"Har invention ki achchi aur buri sides hoti hain. Mera invention kisi bhi desh ke Navy ke badey kaam ki cheez hai. Mera machine enemy ke submarines bhi detect kar sakte hain. Kisi bhi international arms market mein iski keemat karoron (crores) mein hogi." Ishaan:"Par Sir, inhone aapko kidnap kyun kiya?" Dr. Bhalerao:"Wo log pehle mera machine churana chahte the Cambala se, par ek microchip ke bina wo machine kisi kaam ki nahi hai. Unlogon ne mujhse microchip maanga tha par maine nahi diya." He says the microchip is hidden in his cane. Nikki says they have the cane. It was with Suchi. Suchi says she gave it to Rohit. Rohit says he gave it to Ishaan on the beach. Ishaan says he gave it to Farhan for protection. Farhan recalls the happenings and they realize the cane is still on the beach!!
Then we see the head of the second gang hitting Dawar (head of first gang) and threatening him to tell the whereabouts of the microchip or else.....! Dawar says the Doctor didn't tell them and he (the other head) will repent for hitting him...he doesn't know whom he is dealing with. The second head hits Dawar again and then suddenly spots a tattoo in Dawar's chest. He gets scared all of a sudden and promises to work with Dawar. Suddenly a man comes running and shows the rest the speakers. The man says he hid in a boat when he heard the police and he found the speakers connected there. Dawar is outraged at being fooled and says they should return to the beach. Meanwhile, Dr. Bhalerao, Rohit, Ishaan and Farhan also come to the beach to look for the cane. Rohit moves off among the boats. The two gangs suddenly come there and on seeing people on the beach, hide behind a boat. Dawar sends one man forward to eavesdrop. The man hears this:
Farhan:"Par Uncle, wo microchip aapke chhari mein hai kidhar?"
Dr. Bhalerao:"Upar ke hisse mein. Ghumane se woh hissa khul jata hai. Andar ek secret compartment mein wo microchip hai." After hearing this, the man eavesdropping signals to the others to hide and dashes off to their cars. Meanwhile, Rohit has also reached the spot and sees the cars. Rohit also spots the cane in side one. He creeps round to the side with open window and grabs the cane. The other man (who eavesdropped) has also arrived and he grabs the cane at the same time. Both tug the cane, but the man manages to snatch it from Rohit and runs off. Rohit follows and wrestles him to ground as they near Ishaan, Farhan & the Doctor on the beach. The man shouts,"Dawar bhai, iss chhari mein microchip hai!" and the rest of the villains come running. We also see a glimpse of Suchi and Nikki at Dr. Suratkar's place. Suchi calls Shinni, their friend in Cambala (see Crossword Code Mystery) and asks him if he knows anyone in Mumbai Police force. Back in the beach, the gang people are holding the boys and the Doctor. Dawar. unscrews the top of the cane and finds the microchip. Just then there is a sound of police sirens. The gang laughs it off thinking it's false police again. Then there is a gunshot and the head of the second gang drops his gun. Real police come running and capture the gang. Dr. Bhalerao takes away the microchip from Dawar. Suchi and Nikki come running. Dr. Bhalerao thanks them saying they have helped not only him but the country too. Rohit gives a oh-it-was-nothing sort of smile and suddenly asks Dr. Suratkar (who came with Suchi & Nikki) if he can meet SRK. Everyone laughs and Rohit says,"Ok...Ok next time," in an embarrassed kind of way.Next we see the gang back in Cambala and hi-fiving each other at the bus stop. And finally, we see D.L.K. slapping off mosquitoes and saying,"Jaag jao Kulkarni. Yeh Bahut important case hai. Bas un bachchon ke pehle solve karlo aur phir PROMOTION!!"

Mystery of the Breaking Glass Part-II

The man jumps out on Rohit and after some confusion, Rohit shouts,"I got him!!" and Farhan lights a candle to see Rohit has not captured the man, but Ishaan. The man (he was the same man with gun, whom Ishaan & Suchi saw) escaped!! They run outside, but unfortunately run into D.L.K. who forbids them from even coming near the building (boy, was he furious!!). Then one of the boys (forgot who) wishes him best of luck, saying he's glad to get away from the ghost, and D.L.K. says,"Bh-bh-bhoot??". Farhan says that a witch who used to live in the house died there and returns to haunt the house on mahine ki baees tarikh(22nd of every month). D.L.K. asks Nikki the date and she says it's the 22nd. D.L.K. says that they can go with him, but NOT bcoz he is frightened but so that they can see how an intelligent officer handles cases (C.I.A. 5 giggle). Inside, they go to the lab (D.L.K. thought the machine was a satellite dish) where D.L.K. doesn't allow the C.I.A. to touch anything. Then Ishaan nudges Suchi (Rohit wasn't present) and she takes out a ring with lots of keys and jingles it, producing the sound of payal. D.L.K. asks the kids if they heard the sound ofpayal....they say no. When the 'payal' is heard a second time, D.L.K. rushes out of the room and comes face to face with the 'churail' (She had white hair all over her face, long nails and was dressed in a black cloak). When she wriggled her finers at D.L.K., he couldn't take it any more and rushed out of the house, howling!! (whole thing was funny from beginning to end!)
The 'witch' returned to the lab....it was actually Rohit, using a black curtain, top of a mop and some bits of glass (he sure is a Master of Disguise)....and hi-fived all around. Then they poked around and found a notebook belonging to the Professor from which they come to know the professor has gone to Mumbai (Ishaan made a call from his cell to one of the numbers). They fear the 'gun guru' (as Farhan calls him) has gone to Mumbai after the Prof. and decide they must go to Mumbai to warn him. Nikki is very excited about going to Mumbai, but Ishaan says she's not gonna go. Nikki's face falls. The others plan to go to Mumbai by bus which is a four-hour journey.
Next day, Suchi and Farhan are waiting for Rohit....Suchi says she made an excuse of a school fee trip or sumthing, Farhan says, "Me too." Then they see Rohit coming in a blue shirt and black coat & trousers (he looked pretty cool, actually) holding a huge bouquet of flowers and wearing a oh-my-God-this-is-so-stupid kind of expression. Suchi and Farhan burst into giggles. Next bit of conversation (words may not be exactly the same, but it meant sumthing like this):
Farhan: Oye Rohit, tujhe kya ho gaya hai? Tune kya pehna hai??
Rohit: Maine dost ke shaadi ka bahana kiya hai.
Farhan and Suchi: Giggle
Rohit: To main shaadi pe kya T-shirt aur shorts pehen ke jata, Dumbo??!! (walks off, trying to look dignified)
Ishaan arrives in a white car. Nikki jumps out behind him.
Suchi: Nikki! Lekin ye toh....
Ishaan: Arre yaar, blackmail kar rahi thi....keh rahi thi ke mummy ko sab kuchh bata degi....(to Nikki) next time u just wait!
Rohit: Come on guys, bus aa gaya.
Ishaan: (after Rohit moves away) Oye, isse kya ho gaya hai? Ye pehen ke kya aaya hai??
Farhan: Sherlock Holmes ka pota hai. (both giggle)
Next we see the C.I.A.'s journey to Mumbai for a few minutes. Ishaan sitting bside Farhan, Nikki bside Suchi and Rohit, alone (y??). Halfway through the journey they pull Rohit's bouquet to pieces (what a waste!) after Rohit offers one flower from it to Nikki. Then they point out things in Mumbai to each other and stuff like that. They arrive at Dr. Suratkar's house (the man whom Ishaan called from the lab and at whose place they're supposed to stay) by taxi. Rohit pays the fare and tells the driver,"Bhaisaab, Shahrukh miley to batana." Others giggle; Rohit gets irritated.
They walk up to the house and Rohit rings the bell. No Reply. Rohit rings the bell again. No reply. Farhan goes behind the house to try and find a way in. A little later, before Farhan has returned, others hear footsteps coming to the door. Rohit is irritated with Farhan for taking so long and being absent when the door is about to be opened. The door opens. They see Farhan! He says,"Khirki khula tha; ghar mein koi nahi hai." They get into the house and call the doctor. No reply. Suchi spots two cups of coffee on the table, meaning Dr. Bhalerao has been there (he was supposed to have a meeting with Dr. Suratkar that day). They also spot Dr. Bhalerao's cane on the ground. Then they hear a sound upstairs. Rohit grabs the cane and Ishaan, a statue of some sort. They go upstairs. Suchi checks out the computer....it was open and so was the printer. She does a li'l research to find out that the last document printed was bhalerao2.doc and it was printed at 10:30 hrs, an hour ago. Upstairs Rohit finds a picture of Dr. Suratkarwith Shahrukh. Then Ishaan traces the noise to a cupboard. Ishaan signals to Rohit and the two bang the door open together (it was locked). They find Dr. Suratkar. He mutters about Dr. Bhalerao locking him up and stuff and then suddenly asks the two who they are. they untie him, take him down and tell him everything.
The five are puzzled as Dr. Bhalerao did not seem a strong or violent person at all. Suddenly Nikki has a brainwave. She picks up a paper and pencil and draws Dr. Bhalerao's face. Dr. Suratkar is unable to recognise the person. He also tells them the coffee on the table was not there earlier. Suchi says that the person who met Dr. Suratkar as Dr. Bhalerao must be a fake and the same man probably met Dr. Bhalerao as Dr. Suratkar and dragged him off. Rohit asks Dr. Suratkar if he knows SRK (the picture upstairs), Dr. Suratkar says they only met in a party once. They go out into the lawn where Suchi shows the others marks on the ground which clearly show that someone has been dragged from there. They follow the trail and the trail ends at the bottom of the garden. Ishaan jumps over to the other side to inspect the ground there and suddenly hears someone saying,"Hands up!"
Ishaan peers through the bushes. He sees a man pointing a gun at the others (mainly at Dr. Suratkar & Rohit). The man asks Dr. Suratkar where Dr. Bhalerao is. They try to tell him they don't know, but the man doesn't listen and shuts them up. He threatens to shoot if they don't answer him by the time he counts to 5. Ishaan creeps out from behind the bushes and Rohit spots him. Ishaan signals to Rohit....the man had counted till 4 by then.....and Rohit suddenly falls on the ground on his knees b4 the man and starts saying,"E paanch tak mat ginna...iss mein meri koi galti nahi hai...ye log mujhe SRK se milane ke liye laye the..." etc. etc. to distract the man. He succeeds and Ishaan jumps on the man from behind and Rohit from the front. They wrestle the man to the ground and are still fighting when a car draws up and a man comes out of it. He pushes Rohit away (Ishaan had disappeared) and picks the man up. The man (whom Rohit & Ishaan tackled) is furious and looked ready to kill Rohit. The other man tells him they need to move...Dr. Bhalerao is not with Dr. Suratkar & the children. The man gives one last killer glance at Rohit and leaves. All are little dazed. A little later Farhan cries out,"Oye, Ishaan kahan gaya?? Kahin unke saath gaari mein to nahin??" The we see the car and also that Ishaan is indeed hiding at the back of the car.

Mystery of the Invisible Thief Part-I

This episode starts with the C.I.A. sitting in their headquarters with Shrini, their friend (see Crossword Code Mystery), and Shinni is showing them the articles he has written about the C.I.A. He says that now the readers want to know how the C.I.A. was formed...how did it all begin and what was their first case. Everyone starts talking at once and Shrini says,"One at a time," so Suchi narrates the tale. She says,"Yeh sab shuru hua tha Ishaan, Nikki aur ek kiddie party se....."
We see Nikki drawing a tiger, sitting in the school cafeteria, when suddenly there is a roar at feet. She jumps up and spots a red toy car zooming away. "Ishaan!!" she exclaims and chases the car. The car suddenly bangsagainst a table and juice spills on it. Nikki giggles when she sees Ishaan jumping up from behind a table and rushing to the table. Ishaan picks up the car and fervently starts cleaning it. Nikki:"Very good. School mein toys le aane se Mummy ne tumhe mana kiya tha na!" Ishaan:"Ye toy nahi hai Nikki..." and proceeds to show her the dictaphone tied on top of the car. He explains that the car can be used to record stuff when they are far from the actual spot. Nikki:"Wow! Yeh hum Bantoo ko gift kar sakte hain na??" Ishaan says he is not gonna waste such a great gizmo on a kiddie party. Nikki tells him not to be rude and that he is also supposed to go to the party. Ishaan says he's not gonna go no matter what his mom says. The scene changes and we see a frusturated Ishaan sitting at the back of a car and a very happy Nikki and his mom are in the front seats....they are going to the party. When they arrive there, however, they see police cars outside the place....they come to know here has been a theft at the place. Bantoo's (he's the birthday boy) mom says she was laying the table for the party when she heard a crash and coughing upstairs. She went up with Bantoo and saw that the money and jewellery were missing. However, there was no one in the room....only huge footprints....but all the windows were locked from inside and the room had only one door. No one could tell how the thief entered or exited. Nikki:"Wow, iska matlab invisible thief?!!" Ishaan and Nikki go outside. They see a pipe leading to the balcony of the room where the theft took place. Ishaan spots huge footprints on the ground....about size 12 boots. He takes a pic on his cell and then measures it with a 100-rupee note. The print is twice the note. Ishaan also finds a notepad with an impression on it. The impression is of the writing on the previous page. Suddenly D.L.K. comes there. He has just been transferred to Cambala. (remember, this is the case which tells how the C.I.A. formed, so it took place BEFORE all others) D.L.K. is very pleased to have a case in his new post so soon but is very irritated to see children 'messing about' the crime scene. He scolds them....they stand up....and suddenly he spots the notepad in Ishaan's hand and asks him to hand it over. Ishaan distracts him by saying there is sumone on he terrace and while D.L.K. is looking away, he quickly tears off the top page. He hands the rest of the pad to D.L.K. and says he only saw a crow on the terrace.
Back in the school cafeteria, Ishaan is checking out the paper with a magnifying glass with some sort of blue light attached. Nikki comes from her karate classes and sits opposite of him. Ishaan shades the page with a pencil so the writing shows up. The writing says 'गोल चक्की' (Gol Chakki). Nikki:"Yeh Gol Chakki kya hai??" Ishaan:"Kisi jagah ka naam hoga. Iske baare mein toh usse poochh na parega jo Cambala ki har cheez janta hai. Guess kaun?" Nikki:"Aapka classmate, Farhan?" Next we see Farhan riding his bike along a lane. A car comes and stops by him. A man opens the window and asks: (.... is for the parts I forgot)
Man: Beta, Hariwali .... kahaan hai?
Farhan: Kahaan jana hai aapko.....Sodi Farm ya Gupta Bungalows?
Man: Tumhe kaise pata?? Gupta Bungalows mein.
Farhan: Advocate Gupta se milna hai ya unke bete Dr. Gupta se?
Man: Dr. Gupta se.
Farhan: To aap ek kaam kijiye....yahan se seedhe chale jaiye, first right turn chhorke second right turn lijiye. Wahaan pe Veer Sigh gwale (milkman) ke do bakriyan aur chaar gaiyaan (4cows) char rahe honge. Go past them, right? Uske baad aapke left-hand pe Cambala Chemicals ka ek green sign aayega. Jiske thik dahine mein ek bargat ka per hoga. Per ke aage se right lijiye aur .... chale jaiye. Aapke left-hand pe phir ek royal blue colour ka khatara Fiat khara hoga, jiske chaaron tyres puncture aur....
Man: (angrily) Tumhe kya main hi mila mazaak karne ke liye?? (drives off)
Farhan: (calls after the car) Arrey, main to aapko pata bata raha tha....suniye....
The car drives off. Farhan is a bit confused. Enter Rohit. Rohit drives his bike at top speed past Farhan and crosses a puddle on the way. Muddy water from the puddle splashes onto Farhan's bike. Farhan: (shouts after Rohit angrily)"Oye Rohit ke bachche!!" Rohit just glances back and smiles a naughty sort of smile and speeds away. Next we see Ishaan on his bike. Rohit crosses him...at full speed, again....Ishaan:"Oye Rohit, Rohit ruk!!" but in vain....Rohit has disappeared (wow, Rohit is great on his bike!). After this we return to Farhan....Farhan had picked up a caterpillar on a stick and was watching it move when Ishaan cycles up. He asks Farhan where Gol Chakki is and Farhan says that the old name of Acme Glass Factory used to be GolChakki. He starts explaining the history of how there used to be a chakki like the ones used to crush grins in the 1950s when Ishaan interrupts and asks if he knows the way. Farhan again starts on the bakriyan and gayian (same road as the man in the car asked) and Ishaan asks if Farhan can go with him. Farhan agrees. They bike to Gol Chakki. They see the iron gates are closed and there is barbed wire on top of the gates. Ishaan borrows Farhan's jacket and they climb the gates. Ishaan puts the jacket as a cushion on top of the wire and they jump down on the other side. They see footprints o the ground. Ishaan measures them....they are the same as the thief's! Then Farhan spots a signboard on the ground he picks it up...it says 'BEWARE OF DOG!' Then they see the dog running towards them. It growls at them. Farhan picks up a piece of wood. and throws it a little way away and the dog runs to fetch it. Ishaan and Farhan quickly scramble up the gate when someone catches hold of Ishaan's shirt. They turn and see a tall security guard. Ishaan notices he has big shoes on his feet. The guard yells at them, asking what they are doing. Farhan quickly makes an excuse that they had come looking for their cricket ball. The guard asks them to show him the ball. Farhan:"Arre aap dhoondne denge tabhi milega na." Guard says they won't get the ball. coz it's private property and pushes them out. Ishaan thanks Farhan. They re-visit Bantoo's house. They ask Bantoo's mom (she was in the room where the theft took place) if police found anyhting new. She says they found a handprint. She pulls back the covers of the bed (in the room where theft took place) and shows them an enormous handprint. Ishaan says with such big hands and feet, the thief mut be a big man. They leave.
While leaving they find D.L.K. panting, pushing his bike along. Farhan asks Ishaan who it is. Ishaan says D.L. Kulkarni, new inspector. Farhan says D.L. should stand for Dum Lagake! Both laugh. D.L.K. is irritated to see them again. Ishaan suddenly has an idea. He butters D.L.K. up and while telling him how great he is, he places a walkie talkie on his belt. D.L.K. doesn't notice, he goes into the house to interrogate Bantoo's mom. Ishaan and Farhan go a little way away and listen to what D.L.K. is saying on the other piece of the walkie talkie. They hear D.L.K. asking some stupid questions and Bantoo's mom getting irritated. Then D.L.K. gets a call, reporting another theft. Bantoo's mom asks where the theft took place. D.L.K. says at Colonel Duggar's house. Farhan tells Ishaan that Colonel Duggar's place is the house of his friend, Sucheta. They go to her place. Before they can enter the house, they see a man dressed top to toe in black, climbing over the garden wall. They follow him outside. The man leaves on a motorbike, but leaves a trail on the dusty road. Ishaan and Farhan follow the trail. They come to a turning...the path after the turn couldn't be seen.....Farhan turns and goes behind the thing (I don't remember exactly what was blocking the other side) and there is a sound of a huge crash. Ishaan (he hadn't turned yet) cries,"FARHAN!!!!"
